Ahhhh... Here's a practice to bring you back down to earth

I do love a good sun salutation. For myself, and for my kids with bowel and bladder challenges. The deep breaths help relax the nervous system and promote digestion. The stretches help remove tension from the legs and hips and, often, the pelvic floor. The brief moments of plank help strengthen and engage the core.  Best of all, the breathing combined with movement seems to help connect the mind to the body, and to give the “all-good” signal to all involved systems.

If you’ve read my book, you know that I recommend yoga as a way for kids to get more cued into their bodies.  And there is some great kids yoga online! Yoga that involves storytelling, yoga that feels like dancing, yoga that involves talking ponies … But, in my searches, there isn’t really a good video of a basic sun salutation aimed at kids.

At least, there wasn’t until now. Introducing my totally lo-fi, basic-basic sun saluation video!

For years I’ve been wanting to put a sun salutation video online for my patients to use as a home program. But I kept thinking I had to find the perfect space, and have all the right equipment, and then I would need to write a script, and maybe film it from two different perspectives … but I’m a PT, not a videographer. I finally realized I needed to lower my expectations.

So, here it is. Filmed in my home, with my phone, and without a mic. But when I listen, I can hear myself just fine, and I think you and your kids will, too. Give it a try and let me know what you think!

On a related note, I created a Resources page for the Web site. On it, you’ll find links to research, definitions and clean-out recommendations. I also link to some instructional videos that I find helpful (warning: one of them involves a unicorn pooping).
